A Saturday Drive

Image
Dear AT&T This is my phone This is my husband's phone We drove to Colorado on Saturday and had both phone with us.  My phone (Blackberry Storm) had service about 90% of the time on the drive from Sandy, Utah to Grand Junction, Colorado.  My husband's phone (IPhone) had service about 60% of the time.  Everyone knows that Verizon has better overall service than AT&T.  EVERYONE.  The millions of dollars you pay to have Luke Wilson try and tell us otherwise is wasted.  Big time wasted.  Not to worry though.  You do have exclusive rights to the IPhone.  That right there is all you need.  Millions of people will put up with your inferior service coverage just to have that phone.  The apps, the gadgets, the shine, the SPEED.  Oh, how I envy the speed.  AT&T is faster than Verizon, I will give you that.  Perhaps one day I will try the DROID, if I can get past the creepy commercials.  But I digress. I have a suggestion AT&T.  Stop spending $$$$ on f

Shout out to all Volunteer Coaches

I have had a couple of experiences lately that make me want to give a big SHOUT OUT to all the men and women who volunteer/or get paid very little to coach our little ones and our big ones in their sport of choice.   I know that whenever I sign my kid(s) up for their recreation soccer, or their super league baseball, or their high school basketball season, or whatever - I never check the box that says " would you like to help coach ."  Because I REALLY, REALLY don't want to help coach.  These men and women (and their families, don't forget them), give up A LOT to spend a lot of time with a lot of other people's children.  I am grateful for the "good" ones and the "bad" ones.  Barring something horrific (let's not go there), each coach, each assistant coach and each team experience can teach our children something valuable, if we let it, and if we help them see what they learned.   I am grateful to these people.  I am going to make

Is it like this at your house? #2

Do you crawl on the floor using the small vacuum to vacuum your bedroom so you can vacuum easily around all the stuff you aren't going to move because that would be too much work? Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry

Is it like this at your house?

Are you so excited that someone actually picked up off the floor and threw away the empty toilet paper roll, then walked down the hallway to pick up the toilet paper spring holder thingy, returned to the bathroom and put toilet paper on it, and hung it "upside" down that you don't even bother to fix it and hang it "the right way" i.e. toilet paper rolls off the top?

The Mom and Dad

Here's the "Spring" run-down. The Dad: Working hard everyday to provide for our family.  Doing a wonderful job of it.  He is as calm and steady as anybody I know.  He has a tremendous work ethic and is always faithful that the Lord will provide.  He teaches the Priests in YM (that includes C, as this is his last year at home)  Those YM love him.  He always gives them something to chew on. He has D4 playing baseball on an all boys team.  He is a great supporter of her, taking her to almost all of her practices, working with her extra and all the good things that come with the experience. He will travel with her to her tournaments, just has he has C for the past 10 years.  He is the official scorekeeper for Alta baseball and is C's biggest fan.  He is a good fan at that.  Supportive, but not overbearing. (I know, I have asked C)  He gives good advice and wants the best for C's baseball season, as this is his last high school season.  He rarely misses a game.  He

Left side aligned

What's up with the funny positioning of my poem in the last post?  I can't get it left-side aligned. Weird -

A Boy Named Sue

I had no idea that this Johnny Cash song was a Shel Silverstein poem.  I love Johnny Cash.  We are fans at our house.    If you are as well, scroll down to here Johnny Cash serenade you.  "A Boy Named Sue." Shel Silverstein Well, my daddy left home when I was three, and he didn't leave much to Ma and me, just this old guitar and a bottle of booze. Now I don't blame him because he run and hid, but the meanest thing that he ever did was before he left he went and named me Sue. Well, he must have thought it was quite a joke, and it got lots of laughs from a lot of folks, it seems I had to fight my whole life through. Some gal would giggle and I'd get red and some guy would laugh and I'd bust his head, I tell you, life ain't easy for a boy named Sue. Well, I grew up quick and I grew up mean. My fist got hard and my wits got keen. Roamed from town to town to hide my shame, but I made me a vow to the moon and the stars, I'd search the honk

Love is all there is

I really, really love my kids.  I have five of the most interesting, witty (I like wit, I see it as a sign of intelligence), intelligent, right-minded, mildly helpful children a mother could hope to have.  (I am certain you do to.  We all do, that is the blessing of being a parent.  We get to be biased.)  I have given birth to 5 children. (This is an important point because I also have 4 children I have not given birth to)  Boy, girl, girl, girl, girl!!  By the third child's ultrasound I was mildly disappointed it was a girl, by the fourth child's ultrasound I drove home in tears because she was a girl, and by the fifth child I didn't even have an ultrasound.  I don't think I could have taken the disappointment.  I DID however believe I was going to have a boy.  Holy Crap what a blow to my psyche.  How could this have happened to me.  Heavenly Father, I don't like girls, remember?  He does have a sense of humor.  I got hoodwinked.  Many years have passed and I no

Thoughts in Proverbs

Verses I like: Proverbs 13:7  - There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches. Proverbs 13:11 -  Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase. Proverbs 13:12 -  Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.   I don't have anything particularly profound to say about these verses.  I think they speak for themselves.  That's what I like about Proverbs.  They are easily memorized.  They are pearls of wisdom.  Sometimes it's the little things.

Planet Earth for FHE

I was in charge of FHE on Sunday.  We watched this . It was more or less the lazy man's way of doing home evening, but what can I say?  I was lazy.  We watched about 1/2 hour of the Jungle section.  We laughed, we were grossed out, we were amazed.  God created it all.  Heavenly Father organized every living thing on this earth.  Genesis 1: 9-13 and Genesis 1: 24-25 in relevant part to what I was pondering.  Remarkable.  Some of the creatures -  ooh golly!! Sick!  After we were done watching fungus grow, we headed upstairs for brownies.

FHE

Holy Moly!  I posted a few posts back (don't know when) about a new blog I had been working on.  It's this. Any way - it's been quite a job.  Not that it looks like it, but whatever.  Still it has taken up time.  Time I would use to blog on my blog had I had anything to actually blog about.  This blog is actually better than mine anyway.  So again I say -- take a look.  You won't be disappointed. FHE (family home evening if you don't know) on Sunday was taught by husband, hereinafter known as "Big D." Moroni 10: 4-5 with the focus being on verse 5. Everyone in our family now has the gift of the Holy Ghost which means we all may "know the truth of all things."  This means we need to know how we amass the truth of all things.  We pray and get answers to prayers.  The answers to these said prayers come in different ways.  As a general rule we should pay attention to these 3 things. 1.  The answer you get the first time, however, whenever and

The Scriptures and Me

I finished reading a book a few weeks ago called Beloved Bridegroom , by Donna Nielsen .  I posted a picture and a recommendation several posts back.  It's about how to find Christ in ancient Jewish marriage and family customs.  (Do not be intimidated by that description.  It is VERY readable.)   On page 4 it says this:   "The three most essential requirements for parents were: to love God, remember his commandments at all times, and then teach them to their children at every possible opportunity."   I have been thinking about this concept for several months now (way before being reminded of this in Beloved Bridegroom .)  I have been praying that I may be attentive enough to the children and in tune enough with opportunities to engage in this kind of teaching.  Also, I realize that the Lord has been telling me for a LONG time, a really LONG time to do what Hyrum [Smith] was told to do in D&C 11:21 "Seek not to declare my word, but first seek to obtain my

Environmentalism

Some months ago I was listening to a local morning talk-show program.   The host brought up an interesting idea about environmentalism and the human condition.  I have thought about it on and off since then. I am religious.   I believe in God. I do not believe in Darwin's Theory of Evolution or Natural Selection.  I believe God created the earth in 6 creative periods.  I don't believe it was magic.  I believe the creation followed all the laws of the land, physics, geology, etc. etc.  I am not a scientist.  I believe God made Adam steward over all the earth and its inhabitants and that we should be thoughtful, careful stewards.  I don't believe in man-made global warming.  I do not believe human beings have the ability or the inclination to destroy the earth. I believe God made man in his own image and that human beings are the superior life on this planet. If this were not so, God would be a dinosaur and they would still be traipsing around ruining the rain forests by ea

Monday

I actually had something to say -- something very important and profound :)  But I can't.  "24" starts in less than five minutes.

I'm counting it

I got up this morning, donned my work out clothes, drove a few kids to school, picked up the hubby for a "drink"  (this means diet coke for me and water for him), took him back to work, drove home, drove back to the office to drop off the Girls Scout Cookie order form,  drove back home, helped tackle the mess that is a kitchen cupboard, did a bunch of other stuff not worthy of comment (as if this stuff is), never did my work out which was supposed to be this, halhigdon marathon training for novices   showered, and went to lunch with the ladies. I am counting it -- I got in my work out clothes!

It would be nice if . . .

Image
At lunch this week with the dh, we were talking about kids - we talk about kids a lot - and he said, in relation to one of the paths one is pursuing, "it would be nice if . . ."  I got a little smirk on my face.  I thought to myself,                "Yeah, it would be nice if.  It's always 'wouldn't it be nice if.'" I got to thinking in those few seconds after he said this, how often I say or think "it would be nice if" or some version of that same thought or idea. It would be nice if . . . .                 we had more food storage                 we could replace all the windows                 he/she would take school more seriously                 the kids helped out more around the house                 I had more ambition                 you didn't have to work such long hours                 I had a personal assistant                 I had more time to exercise and could lose 10 pounds These five little words of

It's cold in Florida

I am going to Florida tomorrow with this handsome man.  Don't be jealous -- it's cold in Florida.

Yumm!

I am going to eat the entire bag.  By tomorrow.  Check back, you will be impressed!

"Mom, will you throw me some short hops?"

How many of you still get to play catch with your 18 year old son? I have bruised hands, bruised fingertips (I don't use a mitt), and often times he forgets I'm a girl.   Obviously, this is not me and no I am not anywhere on this field.    We play in the family room.  We have broken a lot of stuff.  I will miss throwing "short hops" and the broken stuff.
